CATALEPSY

Catalepsy was founded in 1986 when guitarist Ross Robinson and bassist Steve Hochheiser left (a.k.a. 'were kicked out of') Détente. Caleb was in the band, too, during the recording of the first demo (tracklisting "An Offering", "Evil Within" and "Obituary Fear", released in 1987). The rest of the band that recorded the demo was made up of Veronica Ross (vocals) and Dave McClain (drums). Catalepsy sounded very much like Détente. After the demo, the band (minus Caleb, who'd left on account of his divorce with Steve's sister, Kranik Hochheiser) recorded another demo entitled "Law and Disorder" that was never released (track listing "Under the Influence", "Law and Disorder", "Who Can you Trust" and "Piece of My Heart"). That was in 1988. The band was heading for a deal with Riot's management team and a deal with CBS. When the CBS deal fell through the band called it a day. Steve went solo after Catalepsy stopped. Dave McClain later played in Machinehead.
While in Catalepsy, Steve was also in a side project called The Douchelords. After Catalepsy, Ross Robinson was in Murdercar, and after that became famous as a producer.
The two Catalepsy demos were released on the Détente-related compilation "History 1" in 2008 (see the Détente discography).

The bottom picture is one of 100 Catelepsy demos handed out in 1989 as "Law and Disorder", which was an unwelcome mistake.
